Dredging Project Manager
- Location: South Africa (Projects Nationwide)
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Start Date: Immediate
🔍Role Overview
- Work closely with the technical team to design, develop, and improve dredging equipment.
- Gradually take ownership of project execution, from award through to completion.
- Play a key role in bridging the gap between engineering design and site execution.
🔍Key Responsibilities
1. Mechanical Design & Drafting
- Develop detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using SolidWorks.
- Design and improve:
- Dredging equipment
- Booster pump systems
- Associated mechanical equipment and components
- Assist in standardising and modularising equipment designs into design libraries.
- Work with the technical team to:
- Optimise designs for manufacturability and cost-efficiency
- Improve durability and ease of maintenance.
- Generate:
- General Arrangement (GA) drawings
- Fabrication drawings
- Bill of Materials (BOMs)
- Support workshop and manufacturing teams with technical queries
2. Plant Layouts & Project Engineering
- Develop plant layouts and system integration drawings for projects.
- Assist in planning:
- Equipment positioning
- Pipe routing
- Site flow and operational layouts
- Work closely with:
- Sales team (concept development)
- Operations team (practical implementation)
3. Project Management (Development Role)
Project Handover & Planning
- Receive and review the project handover from the Sales Team.
- Understand:
- Scope of work
- Client requirements
- Site conditions and constraints
- Develop project execution plans.
Site Establishment & Logistics
- Coordinate:
- Equipment logistics and transport to the site
- Site establishment and setup
- Work with internal teams and suppliers to ensure readiness.
Health & Safety Coordination
- Work with Health & Safety Officers to:
- Compile and manage H&S files.
- Ensure all compliance requirements are met before site entry.
- Assist in onboarding teams onto the site.
Client & Site Coordination
- Act as a point of contact between:
- Head office
- Site teams
- Clients
- Ensure smooth communication and alignment.
Execution & Monitoring
- Track project progress against:
- Timeline
- Budget
- Deliverables
- Identify and resolve issues proactively.
Reporting
- Prepare monthly project reports covering:
- Progress
- Costs vs budget
- Risks and delays
- Ensure projects are delivered:
- On time
- Within budget
- To meet the required quality standards
4. General & Ad Hoc Responsibilities
- Assist the General Manager with additional operational or technical tasks.
- Contribute to:
- Continuous improvement initiatives
- Process development within the business
- Support both engineering and operations teams where required.
Travel Requirements
- Occasional travel to project sites (local and potentially regional)
- Majority of project management is coordinated from the Head Office
✅ Minimum Requirements
Experience
- 5–10 years’ experience in mechanical design/drafting
- Proven experience in:
- Heavy mechanical equipment
- Fabrication and manufacturing environments
- Exposure to site work or project environments is highly advantageous.
Technical Skills
- SolidWorks proficiency (training/refresher courses available)
- Strong understanding of:
- Mechanical systems
- Fabrication processes
- Materials and manufacturing methods
- Ability to interpret and produce:
- Technical drawings
- Layouts
- BOMs
Project Management (or Interest)
- Strong desire to move into project management
- Understanding of:
- Project workflows

Boilermaker
📢 We’re Hiring: Boilermaker
- Location: Alberton, Johannesburg
- Type: Full-Time
- Start Date: Immediate
S.A.M.E. Dredging is looking for a skilled and reliable Boilermaker to join our fabrication team. This role requires an experienced individual with strong welding and structural steel fabrication skills, ideally within heavy engineering or mining-related environments. The successful candidate will be responsible for the manufacturing, repair, and assembly of dredging equipment components to a high standard of quality and safety.
The Boilermaker will support our workshop operations with daily fabrication work, onsite repairs when required, and coordination with the production and engineering teams.
🔍Key Responsibilities:
- Fabricate, assemble, and repair steel components for dredging and heavy engineering equipment.
- Perform high-quality welding (MIG, TIG, Stick) on structural and mechanical assemblies.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, fabrication plans, and measurements accurately and precisely.
- Carry out maintenance and refurbishment of worn components, pumps, pontoons, and attachments.
- Ensure all fabrication work meets required safety, quality, and engineering standards.
- Assist with the fitment and alignment of mechanical parts during assembly.
- Conduct on-site repairs and provide breakdown support as needed.
- Maintain workshop housekeeping, tool care, and compliance with health & safety procedures.
- Work closely with supervisors, engineers, and production teams to meet project deadlines.
✅ Minimum Requirements:
- Qualified Boilermaker
- Minimum 5–7 years’ experience in structural steel fabrication or heavy engineering
- Proven welding ability (MIG / Stick / TIG experience advantageous)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and fabrication plans
- Experience working with platework, pipework, and mechanical assemblies
- Competent in using workshop equipment (cutting, grinding, bending, drilling tools)
- Strong understanding of workshop safety standards and compliance procedures
- Ability to work independently and meet production deadlines
- Willingness to assist with site work and repairs when required
- Valid driver’s licence (advantageous)
